Even though today is January 1, 2025, in the dead of winter, fall has me reminiscing for a lovely time of the year. It's sunny, mostly dry, and colorful. BTW. may your hopes and dreams come true in 2025, making for a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And now for something completely different: Have you ever heard of Althea Cole, a supposed columnist for a mid-sized Midwestern daily newspaper? Her columns are ridiculously verbose and prolix. I wrote a letter about these overly long columns of an elementary-level, knee jerk conservatism. Here's the text of the submitted message: "When I read Althea Cole's columns I'm reminded of a letter written by Voltaire to a friend. He wrote that he was so sorry the letter was so long. He didn't have time to write a short one."
My letter to the editor was ignored. Is this why newspapers are failing across the country? Their product is mediocre and unresponsive to readers, causing them to go to social media.

Dictators are paranoid anyway, and there is no love lost between China and Vietnam. In fact, the Vietnam people hate the Chinese for their aggressive business incursions into this southern neighbor. There is an on-going contention about control of some small islands in the South China Sea. BTW, Vietnamese maps have "East Vietnam Sea" for the South China Sea. That's just one of many examples of Vietnam telling China to drop dead.

China's aggressive business practices are not appreciated in Vietnam, as well as expansion overtures in the South China Sea. BTW, Vietnamese maps read "East Vietnamese Sea" where the rest of the world has "South China Sea." Vietnam readily adopted the Western alphabet by Jesuits in the 15th century because it wasn't Chinese characters. Many revolts finally won independence for VN in 1428. 4. Hamas is stupid, stupid, stupid! What did they think would happen?
5. Israeli people, take back your country from Bebe. Need 2-state solution.
6. Republican MAGA, read history. Fascism always ends badly.
7. Address the border. That means you, Congress.
